“We’ll never see a team like Pele’s team in 1970” that’s what my dad always used to tell me. It is hard to compare teams from different times, but I’m satisfied because i’ve seen the Spain that wins it all. Spain has won 3 major titles in 4 years and if you want to compare, well the best Brazil (1970) won 3 in 12 years. They couldn’t win the American Cup with Pele, and in fact it took them 30 years to win that trophy (from 1949 to 1989) I repeat, it is hard to compare, but Spain still has time to write some more history. The Euro Cup has ended and football can finally rest in Europe (South American teams are still playing), but what did the tournament leave us?
The number 7 came back to say good bye: it looked like Shevchenko has been off the fields, at least I didn’t know that he was still playing, but he came back as the hero where nobody thought of him as one. He always scored important goals for AC Milan, but this time he scored 2 heroic goals in his first match. Scheva will be retiring soon, but he left his best for our memories.
How many goals from headers? 22 and more than any other Eurocup. Funny that the champions like to play with the ball at their feet.
Chip it or lets keep talking about it. Ukraine’s goal against England was in and the referee didn’t see it. In football we need controversy, but most of us who love the game, would like to have goals when in fact there is one. The referees next to the goalies are useless. I believe they have the best ticket of the whole tournament. Even a tennis’ chair umpire wouldn’t create such controversy. It is a topic to talk about, but for the best of the beautiful game, it is better that we respect the goal of the game. THE goal. IT IS IN OR NOT!!!
More teams doesn’t mean better football. At the next Euro in France there will be 24 teams, which means that Albany, Macedonia, Malta, and Latvia will get there. What a success!!! Really???
Scandals and protests?? not the time, not the place!!! I believe that people taking advantage of the situation to protest about other issues rather than football should not even bother coming close to the events. Its is disrespectful to the event that gets nations together, it is not fair for football fans and the game. These people should not take advantage from football.
The giants? France was good, until they faced Spain. England was getting better, but they got Italy in their way. Portugal wanted a Golden Ball, but the Spaniards rather give that to the Argentinian. Germany wanted revenge, but Italy put them in their place. Fair final?
Italy: a fair finalist and runner-up. Unlucky maybe, because they had to face the best team in the tournament, the best Spain of the tournament, the best team in history as I said early. Italy always comes from nothing to glory and I said it on my last post. But they didn’t have the ball, and when they had chances, Casillas was always in front, not even letting air going in his goalie. Italy is not the same from 20 years ago. They play better and if they can win playing good then great. But some people don’t like that and they rather see them play ugly and win anyway. We all saw Chelsea win 2 months ago the Champions League, and Inter won it the same way, as well as Brazil in 94, Germany in 1990, and 82, but almost nobody remembers them. We all remember the beautiful games from Holland in 74, Brazil in 82 and 86 and the FC Barcelona from today. Italy learned to defend themselves by having the ball at their feet and hopefully they won’t forget that.
Xavi made me look good. At the important matches the important man is always there. 2 assists and the other 2 goals started with him. He is the player with the most completed passes in the tournament. (533) and it confirms that he has a brain attached in his foot. Master!!!
Mister Andres Iniesta. Genius!!!
There are some many things to say about this Euro Cup, but in general it has been great, with wonderful goals, plays, and players. Without the horrible sound from bubuzelas that wouldn’t let the sound of fans get in the field to create such party. And for the Champions this…
Spain triple Champion. The best in history?? I don’t know, but there are always references. If it weren’t for the 1970 Brazil, there wouldn’t be a creative player and side defenders that go back and forward. If it weren’t for the 1974 Holland, we would still see teams just kicking the ball to the rivals box to see what happens next. Without AC Milan in the late 80s we wouldn’t have to defend well and we would just kick whoever comes in front of you. Without today’s Barcelona, Spain wouldn’t be hungry for glory. What’s in the future? Only time will tell, and we have to wait for other geniuses to show up, but meanwhile we have to enjoy this guys playing beautiful football. To win what they have already would be impossible. I say they are the best in history because there has been 42 years since Pele’s Brazil took the World Cup. Football is owned by history, but it lives in the present, and right now history is telling us that the spaniards are KINGS OF THE WORLD!!! Viva España!!!
